CERUS Safety Technology

Lutron has revolutionized the design of Roman shades by introducing CERUS (Cord-Eliminating Roman Uptake System) safety technology.

This patent-pending innovation replaces the cords of traditional Roman shades with sheer uptake bands. This design creates a safer shade by eliminating exposed inner cords that may pose a strangulation hazard to small children. The uptake bands also improve reliability, by removing the possibility of cords tangling, and performance, by providing a quieter system with smoother, more even travel of the shade.

Lutron Roman shades are available in a variety of soft fabrics and woven woods, or clients can opt to use COM (Customer’s Own Material) for a custom installation.

CERUS Safety Technology

CERUS bands effectively replace the exposed inner cords of traditional Roman shades to offer a more reliable, smoother-traveling, quieter and safer shade. These flexible, fiberglass bands have an open weave developed for the optimal combination of light transmission and strength.



Soft Fabrics Color-coordinated uptake bands virtually disappear against shade linings when viewed from outside the window.	Woven Woods Uptake bands have been carefully paired with each woven wood option to minimize light disruption through the shade material.

Industry Recall

On March 2, 2010, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Lutron Electronics, announced a voluntary recall of all Roman shades with exposed inner cords due to the strangulation risk they pose to small children.

Lutron CERUS safety technology eliminates such cords.
