Lutron Launches World’s First Certified DALI-2 Lighting Control Solution
Energi Savr Node is the first certified DALI-2 lighting control product
London (October 30th, 2017)
— Lighting and shading control leader Lutron Electronics
today announced that the newest version of its Energi Savr Node
control module is the world’s first certified DALI-2 lighting control product. Thanks to the new, stringent DALI-2 certification process, lighting professionals can now enjoy the benefits of a DALI-based lighting control solution, while giving specifiers full confidence in the interoperability of the various elements of their lighting control systems.
The DALI-2 standard is the next generation of the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) protocol for controlling lighting, managed by the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance
(DiiA) global consortium of lighting businesses. The DALI-2 certification brings the promise of significantly improved interoperability as well as additional functionality compared with current DALI (version 1) systems in the market.
Dr. Scott Wade, Technical & Certification Manager of the DiiA, said: “The launch of the first DALI-2-certified control device is a major milestone for DALI. This will be the first of many next-generation products that will bring the benefits of the new DALI-2 standard to lighting specifiers and users around the world.”
The Lutron Energi Savr Node is a smart module for controlling lighting in commercial spaces, and can be used on its own or as part of the Lutron Quantum
total light management system to control everything from a single building to an entire campus. The latest version of Energi Savr Node is DALI-2 certified, meaning the DALI-2 test results were independently verified by the DiiA before the certification was granted.
David Ribbons, Director of Sales, Europe and Africa at Lutron Electronics, said: “The launch of the world’s first certified DALI-2 control solution underlines Lutron’s commitment to provide customers with products and technologies that will simplify the specification process. With the new certified DALI-2 Energi Savr Node, customers can for the first time specify an independently verified DALI control solution, giving them confidence that it will operate seamlessly with other certified DALI-2 products.”
With DALI-2, the DALI standard has been broadened to cover more types of products, and testing has been made more detailed to improve interoperability between devices, while maintaining backwards compatibility with existing DALI-compliant devices.
As more certified DALI-2 products come on the market, it will be possible to offer a complete certified DALI-2 system covering luminaires, drivers and controls.

Founded in 1961, Lutron Electronics is headquartered in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania. The company designs and manufactures more than 15,000 energy-saving products, which are sold in more than 100 countries around the world. In the U.S. alone, Lutron products save an estimated 10 billion kWh of electricity, or approximately $1 billion in utility costs per year. The company’s early inventions — including the company’s first dimmer design — are now at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. Outside the U.S., notable installations include St. Paul’s Cathedral, Wimbledon Stadium, and the Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao).
The Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA) is an open, global consortium of lighting companies that aims to grow the market for lighting-control solutions based on Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) technology. DiiA was established in response to industry requests for an independently-verified DALI-2 certification program that covers the functionality specified in version 2 of the IEC 62386 family of international standards. DALI-2 certification brings the promise of significantly improved interoperability and additional functionality compared with current DALI systems in the market. DiiA is a member program of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (ISTO). For more information, see www.digitalilluminationinterface.org.
