PerSONNA Case Study
Interview with: Franklin L. Geho, Owner
GEHO Architects
Allentown PA
Application: Small office with CAD workstations
"Our people enjoy controlling their own lighting...it’s so much easier to see our CAD screens."

- Franklin L. Geho, Owner, GEHO Architects
When / why did you have a problem with your lighting?
When I became an architect, we drew plans by hand so we needed lots of light. For that close up work, bright fluorescents were, and still are, terrific. But while computers and CAD programs have simplified our work, they’ve brought us a new dilemma. Our employees were really bothered by reflections and glare on their CAD screens from the bright lights. At times the contrast between dark screens and brightly lit surroundings made it almost impossible for them to see. Quite often I’d notice people squinting and rubbing their eyes, or squirming around to block the overhead lights with their bodies.
How did you solve the problem?
I saw a demonstration of the PerSONNA‘ system, and learned that you could actually dim fluorescent lights. Not only that, with PerSONNA, each CAD workstation could be controlled separately with a nifty little handheld remote control. I knew that was the cost-effective answer I needed. Installation was a breeze, too. The system components retrofitted into our existing fluorescent fixtures with no changes in wiring.

How do your employees like the PerSONNA system?
When it was first installed they were absolutely joyful. After several months use, they love the PerSONNAs. It’s so much easier to see the CAD screens; the difference is amazing and so is the relief their eyes have felt. Now each person adjusts the light level to where it is comfortable for him or her. . . and each definitely has a preference. One architect takes it down to about 25% available light, another to only about 75%.

We all appreciate the flexibility to "have it our way." PerSONNA is also quite convenient because architects frequently move from desk to desk to work on different projects. At the touch of a button, they can create a comfortable -- individual -- lighting level anywhere in our office.

Your employees like PerSONNA – are there additional benefits?
I don’t have complaints about reflections and glare on computer screens -- that’s a benefit -- and I think PerSONNA makes our employees happier. PerSONNA has made the office atmosphere more relaxing, too. The lower lights just seem to make the place quieter. In addition, there’s no doubt that we’re saving electricity since the lighting is almost never fully on.

These leading organizations have PerSONNA controls.
