Background

As a member of the Accor global hotel group, the Sofitel brand is renowned for developing five-star hotel properties in legendary locations. Each of its boutique hotels delivers a distinct guest experience that blends the rich heritage of the local culture with French art de vivre. The team at the Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese was tasked with reimagining hospitality in the guestroom.

Guests need control of the lights, the shades, and the temperature in their room. Managing all of these parameters in a globally-accessible and effortless manner, is, I believe, a distinguishing feature of Lutron.

Design Goals

Put Power in Guests' Hands
To provide guests with the sophisticated level of control they expect from Sofitel properties, Accor selected the Lutron myRoom solution for every guestroom in the hotel. Palladiom keypads in headboards allow guests to turn off the lights for the night without leaving the bed, and myRoom controls allow the draperies to open silently so early-risers can enjoy the stunning views of Rome without waking anyone else in the room. When it's time to go see the sights, guests can close their shades to block some of the brilliant noonday light and heat that comes with it. Connected with smart thermostats as well, guests have control over their entire space to tailor the light levels and temperature as they see fit.

The Solution

Welcome Global Guests
The myRoom system was designed to deliver a luxury experience to guests from all over the world. Keypad buttons feature large icons that are easy to interpret in any language, reflecting the global spirit of Accor and its international customer base.

Keypads are usually considered a tool, a means to an end, but in this case the design team needed a product that was also beautiful. They selected exquisite, white glass Palladiom keypads that blend seamlessly into the rich white leather headboards in the guestrooms, offering functionality without compromising the carefully curated look. With Lutron's Dynamic Backlight Management, the keypad's illumination self-adjusts to provide the right backlight brightness for any ambient lighting condition.

Establish a New Level of Hospitality
Lutron's myRoom solution also elevates the hotel experience by giving staff the tools to impress guests with heightened attention to detail and customer service. Staff can trigger "Welcome" scenes during check-in so guests enter a gently lit room with the curtains open to reveal a breathtaking view of Rome instead of fumbling for a keycard or light switch in the dark.

Heightened privacy is another hallmark of myRoom systems. Guests can indicate they do not want to be disturbed by pressing a button on the keypad in the room instead of a hanging a sign on the door. The system also informs housekeeping staff when the room is unoccupied, allowing them to provide tidy-up or turn-down services without interrupting guests.

Results

The Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese reopened to excellent reviews after their renovation was completed July 1st, 2019. Now, myRoom puts the power in guest's hands, improving customer satisfaction, and staff efficiency.

We measure guest satisfaction very carefully and we’ve seen a clear improvement since the renovation. Guests are extremely impressed by the design of the guestroom and remark on how comfortable it is.
