Climate & Energy
We believe that companies like ours can play a role in meeting the challenge of climate change. We are also working to reduce our climate impact by measuring and taking action to reduce our scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions. We’re developing a roadmap to reduce emissions across our value chain and focusing our efforts on the most significant opportunities for innovation and emissions reductions.
Prioritizing LEED
From offices to manufacturing centers, we’re incorporating sustainable design principles into our new construction and renovation projects. Recently, our Dubai Sales & Service Center, pictured above, and our Ohio Engineering office achieved LEED certifications, joining our existing portfolio of LEED-certified facilities. Five additional locations are on track for certification in 2025.
Energy Optimization
Lutron is pursuing opportunities to increase energy efficiency and conservation across our facilities. In addition to intelligent lighting and HVAC upgrades, we have initiated energy audits at our major facilities to identify further opportunities to drive energy optimization and decarbonization.
Reducing Emissions from Logistics
In 2023, we opened a new distribution center in Texas, which reduces the distance products travel to reach our customers. New ground-freight shipping standards for all outgoing orders are also helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
Product
Since our founding in 1961 with the introduction of the solid-state dimmer, we have developed innovative products that not only save energy but reduce waste, enhance efficiency, and improve people’s lifestyles.
How Lutron Products Make an Impact
Each year, our products save a total of almost 10 billion kWh in the US alone—the equivalent of $1 billion in annual energy costs or 7 million metric tons of CO2 in lighting energy.
Long Life
Long Life
Lutron products are built to last. We engineer every product from the ground up and carry out rigorous end-of-line testing to guarantee quality and extended operational life, including tests that simulate ten years of constant use.
Easy to Upgrade
Easy to Upgrade
Our products and systems are built for the future, to accommodate upgrades rather than replacements. Whether you’ve had your system for a year or a decade, it’s easy to incorporate new features and capabilities—and access 24/7 support.
Endlessly Reconfigurable
Endlessly Reconfigurable
As your projects evolve, Lutron products and systems can adapt with them. Lutron products are designed to be flexible for simple rezoning or major transformations, reducing the need to replace equipment, wire, or conduit.
Save Energy
Save Energy
Lutron products provide significant energy savings. Dimmers and sensors conserve energy while connected systems and automated shading increase building efficiency and optimizations to help reduce climate impacts.
Wireless Adaptability
Wireless Adaptability
Redesign, retrofit, or expand without having to rewire. Our wireless fixtures are individually addressable, which means that control is placed in the device itself, eliminating control panels and copper control wire.
Supporting Sustainable Design
Supporting Sustainable Design
Lutron controls can save up to 60% of lighting energy compared to manual controls. Lutron lighting fixtures, automated shading, and controls can contribute to achieving certifications such as LEED, WELL, and BREEAM.
Products in Action
BlackRock
To achieve LEED Platinum certification at their HQ, BlackRock chose an Athena control system that delivers granular control over lighting, provides actionable energy data, and dramatically reduces raw materials needed for wiring with over 9,000 Athena wireless nodes.

Environmental sustainability is deeply rooted in our company’s heritage as we have consistently delivered innovative products that save energy, reduce waste, and improve people’s lifestyles.
Waste
We’re challenging ourselves to find new ways to combat the global waste problem and support the circular economy by implementing company-wide waste reduction initiatives and developing solutions to drive measurable improvement.
Reducing Waste-to-Landfill
Lutron is revamping our facilities’ recycling programs, making it easier for our employees to do the right thing. Improved processes, easy access to recycling, and more robust capabilities across our offices, manufacturing locations, and distribution centers are driving reduced waste-to-landfill.
Spotlight on Costa Rica Facility
Our new LEED Gold-certified manufacturing facility in Costa Rica, which opened in 2022, has achieved zero-waste-to-landfill by reusing pallets and skids and recycling e-scrap, plastic, metal, and cardboard.
Composting
Lutron has introduced a new composting program in our global headquarters’ employee cafeteria. In addition to harvesting produce from our Lutron Garden, almost 2,500 lbs. of food waste is redirected to composting each month. Our Mexico manufacturing facility boasts a similar program in its three employee cafeterias.
Packaging
Lutron is continually innovating to reduce the impact of our packaging by minimizing waste, integrating more sustainable materials, and ensuring damage-free delivery.
Product Packaging
Product Packaging
Lutron is prioritizing initiatives to reduce packaging and integrate more sustainable materials. We created a new packaging engineering and design team to support all of our products and distribution worldwide.
Local Suppliers
Local Suppliers
Over the past two years, we’ve worked to develop relationships with local suppliers of packaging materials. Today, Lutron procures over 80% of its corrugate packaging from local vendors within 25 miles of each facility.
Digital Installation Guides
Digital Installation Guides
Digital installation guides accessed via QR code are replacing printed manuals. This not only reduces waste but also enhances the customer experience by providing quick access to online tutorials and troubleshooting guides.
Water
Access to clean water is essential to our communities and planet. While Lutron operations do not require large amounts of water, we’re committed to the efficient use of resources.
Water-Efficient Design Standards
We’re working to ensure our facilities have installed high-efficiency water fixtures such as low-flow faucets and toilets. Additionally, we’re standardizing the use of smart water coolers, eliminating plastic bottles from our campuses worldwide.
Lutron is also expanding the use of rainwater harvesting systems. For example, our newest manufacturing facility in Costa Rica uses a rainwater management system to collect rainwater for reuse.
